Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: name, email address, phone number, county/location, and animal details. When you use M-Pesa, we receive transaction references and payment status from Safaricom — we never store your M-Pesa PIN. We also collect usage data (pages visited, search queries, device type) to improve the platform.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to: create and manage your account, process bookings and payments, send booking confirmations and reminders via SMS, match you with nearby veterinarians, send platform updates (you can opt out anytime), and improve our services through anonymised analytics.

Information Sharing

We share limited information as necessary: your name and phone number are shared with a vet only after a booking is confirmed, to allow them to contact you. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share anonymised, aggregated data for research purposes. We may disclose data if required by Kenyan law or a valid court order.

M-Pesa & Payment Data

Payments are processed directly by Safaricom's M-Pesa API. VetaKe receives only the transaction status and receipt number. Your M-Pesa credentials (PIN, account details) are never transmitted to or stored by VetaKe. Escrow balances are tracked on our platform until release.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers in Kenya. We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit. Access to user data is restricted to authorised VetaKe staff on a need-to-know basis. While we take all reasonable measures, no system is completely secure — please use a strong password and keep your account credentials safe.

Cookies & Analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (e.g., dark mode, language). We may use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the platform — this data is anonymised. You can clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Your Rights

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you, request corrections to inaccurate data, request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention requirements), and opt out of marketing communications. Email [email protected] to exercise these rights.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by Kenyan financial regulations (booking and payment records may be retained for up to 7 years).

Children's Privacy

VetaKe is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification. Continued use of VetaKe after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
